The upcoming cell phone camera by Sony is really amazing. It features the E-Mount, which means you can use many interchangeable Sony lenses with it! You attach it to the back of your phone or simply hold it separately in hand (or on the desk, on a stand etc.) close-ish to the phone and the phone itself acts as a viewfinder and does all the storage, pre and post processing like a camera body. That's really amazing in my books :) I mean, you combine it with a smartphone and you get an ultra-portable competition to full-size DSLR and mirrorless cameras. I don't think I need to say more to get all of you photo enthusiasts out there grinning and preparing to pre-order.
The implications of a product like this one are many, but let's just mention a few to keep it brief. You can attach it at the back of the camera and take landscape or portrait photos of buildings, people, landscape and so on. You can take it in your hand and lift it up for a selfie while positioning your cell phone elsewhere so you can still see what you're doing. This makes group selfies easier too- not to mention keeping your phone safe during selfie acrobatics. By attaching it somewhere at home, work, school or elsewhere, you can use it as a high quality webcam, recording or even surveillance device. No doubt, it'll come in handy for amateur porn enthusiasts too ;) Finally, you'll be able to do some really nice macro shots as well, which people tend to do a lot for business or personal reasons, or just because macro shots look cool.
Why not get a full-size camera? Well, they are bulky, many people prefer cell phone photography form factor but want their shots to look nicer which this camera achieves, and it fits a lot better in a purse or a messenger bag. Finally, why pay for a camera body if your phone can serve as one? Certainly, this won't be the cheapest choice on the block when it comes out. Many people will still cave and look at alternatives. For those who are on board with me regarding the benefits of this upcoming camera, buying it will be a no-brainer.
Until it comes out, however, enjoy my selfies off of my precious iPhone 5s ;)
